PM Marković meets with newly appointed UNICEF's Head of mission Santander: Proud of common results

Podgorica, Montenegro (29 June 2020) -- Montenegro is proud of the UNICEF mission and the results we have achieved together in promoting and protecting the rights of children and youth, said Prime Minister Duško Marković at a meeting with newly appointed UNICEF Representative to Montenegro Juan Santander.
"Working together on the rights of children and their protection, we are doing the best thing for this and the future generations," said Prime Minister Marković and highlighted the Government's strong commitment to these issues.
He pointed out the excellent cooperation between the UNICEF and departments, but also among other social actors in Montenegro and assessed our country as a good example in the region.
Thanking Prime Minister Marković for his commitment to protecting the rights of the child, Santander stressed commitment of the UNICEF to continue comprehensive support to Montenegro, with the aim to improve situation in the field of operation of this UN agency's mission.
He said that in the coming period, the UNICEF will be focused on reducing poverty among children, and related topics regarding the access to education, protection from violence and the provision of health care.
Prime Minister Marković pointed out that Montenegro is committed to the issue of young people, and the creation of conditions for their better quality of life, employment and stay in our country. Particular emphasis was placed on the north of the country, where during the mandate of this Government, EUR of tens of millions were invested in various infrastructure, which will result in the creation of new jobs in the upcoming period.
The Prime Minister thanked the UNICEF and the UN for the support to both, Montenegro and globally, in the fight against coronavirus and Santander congratulated our country on the achieved results, a timely and an effective response. The Head of the UNICEF Office in Montenegro also said that the Government, in the second wave of coronavirus, demonstrates that it is responsible in treating new cases and assessed the economic measures as positive.
