Montenegro and Slovakia have excellent bilateral relations, which can be further enhanced through strengthening economic cooperation and more intensive exchange of knowledge in the field of European integration, it was assessed at the meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković and newly appointed Slovak Ambassador Boris Gandel.

Prime Minister Marković thanked Slovakia for its continued support and partnership. He emphasised the commitment of our country to European integration, and noting that Montenegro has accepted the new methodology for negotiations, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the announced opening of Chapter 8. In the coming period he expects the closure of several chapters, which would give new dynamics to the negotiation process and enable its finalisation in the medium term.

"We are determined to work hard on the European agenda and to provide key answers to the biggest challenges in the field of rule of law and media," said PM Marković, adding that the Government had previously worked diligently on issues important for economic progress and improving standard of living.

Ambassador Gandel said that Slovakia would continue to support Montenegro and that his Government remained committed to the enlargement of the Union to the Western Balkans. In that context, the two officials assessed positively that the issue of enlargement is again high on the agenda of the new European Commission.

The meeting also discussed the challenges facing all countries due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the ways in which can be contributed to the recovery of the economy, primarily tourism.
