Podgorica, Montenegro (30 June 2020) -- The second international conference - "Green Days 2020 - Rethinking Development," which was held through a series of two-day virtual talks, ended today, and gathered more than 400 participants from twenty countries around the world. The organizers of the conference, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Government of Montenegro and the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro held the conference on the Zoom platform, and all those interested could watch the live broadcast on Facebook and YouTube.
On behalf of the organisers, the conference was opened by Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro Milutin Simović, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States Mirjana Špoljarić Egger and Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce Danilo Gvozdenović. Janez Potočnik, Co-chair of the UN International Expert Group on Resources and former European Commissioner for the Environment, gave an introductory speech at the virtual conference.
The conference discussed the challenges and the need to move from a linear to a circular economy model, new resource management strategies, development of new business models, innovation management, ambitious climate goals and the European Green Agreement, as a map for achieving sustainability of the EU economy and recovery of the tourism sector in the period of crises, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference brought together a powerful network of domestic and international experts, government representatives, ministers, diplomats, makers of public opinion from all relevant sectors - industry, politics, technology, science, business, finance and the environment - who discussed the topics that define our future. We are convinced that the conference provided a platform for relevant dialogue between science and politics and that it will be a source of inspiration for stronger cooperation and implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
"Green Days 2020 – Rethinking Development" were organized in partnership with the 5th Circular Change Conference and are part of the economic "Caravan on Circular Changes 2020". More information about the conference and the main conclusions of the event, can be found on the official website of the conference - www.greendays.me, as well as on the social networks Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter.
