Minister Bogdanović tells Pobjeda: We won’t allow anyone to shape ridiculous policy based on our rich history, which aims to usurp or erase everything that is Montenegrin

Exerting vandalism on the monuments of our glorious past has its motive in undermining true values of Montenegro and its historic heritage with the aim of diverting it from its European path, Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović said in the interview with Pobjeda.

Commenting on increasingly frequent desecration of monuments to the heroes of the People's Liberation War, he emphasised that the real target for those who would like to rewrite our past is not the monument in Ravni Laz, Zeta or Duklja, but the constitutional and legal order of civil, democratic, secular, multi-confessional Montenegro.

"We all know who is against the anti-fascist Montenegro and why. Devastation of our historic heritage, desecration of cultural goods, media attacks on Montenegro from neighbouring addresses, with blessings and logistics of a part of domestic political structures is actually a revived political pathology from the 1990s. Everyone who thinks that can play with Montenegrin flame of freedom is wrong. We won’t allow anyone, under no circumstances, to shape a ridiculous policy based on our rich history, which aims to usurp or erase everything that is Montenegrin. We are obliged to do so by the sublime symbolism of the bright date of Montenegrin history – 13 July, but also by all the bearers of the anti-fascist flame who bravely fell, resisting the evil of Nazism and fascism," said the Minister.

The Minister noted that destruction of state symbols is nothing but apparent manifestation of fascism.

"To hooligans who are capable of attacking Montenegro, its values and European vision, unfortunately, the flag of another country is sacred. Such people have not yet understood, or do not want to accept, that on 21 May 2006 Montenegro regained its independence and paved its pro-European path once and for all. I will mention that, throughout the history, Montenegro has successfully resisted uncivilised acts on several occasions, so now it will not close its eyes to the fascist attempts to overthrow the state. We have shown that we know and are able to stand in defence of the legacy of anti-fascism and the modern achievements of our country. This time, even more energetically," said Minister Bogdanović.

He emphasised that the hate speech, which is increasingly present in the vocabulary of the political opposition, but also among those who should spread the word of God, and their glorification of the Chetnik movement, is a slap in the face to the anti-fascism tradition.

"Our society is deeply rooted in the foundations of anti-fascism, so sowing the seeds of hatred and divisions that lead to conflicts will not pass this time either. That is not, nor will it be, the future we are striving for. Montenegro has always been able to resist the fascism, it has contributed and continues to contribute to regional stability, and most of all it is recognised as a promoter of dialogue and civic values on its path to the European Union. That path is our only choice, regardless of how loud were those who would prefer to see Montenegro as a part of a Greater Serbia," said Minister Bogdanović.
