After today's meeting with the social partners, Prime Minister Duško Marković decided to immediately put into procedure the Draft Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, which envisages, among other things, an increase in the nominal amount of the minimum pension by more than 13 percent and an additional EUR 135 million in the medium term for the purposes of amending the Law while ensuring the regularity of payments and the sustainability of the financial system.
"I have decided that the Government will consider the Draft Law on Pension and Disability Insurance at the next session, which has been harmonised as much as possible with our social partners. The law is an expression of our care for pensioners, it ensures fairness and adequacy of benefits, while eliminating the most unfavourable years from pension calculation, in order to avoid a negative impact on the income of our pensioners" - said the Prime Minister after the final working meeting with President of the Social Council Vukašin Zogović, Presidents of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro Srđa Keković and the Federation of Trade Unions of Montenegro Duško Zarubica, and their associates.
All representatives of the social partners expressed great satisfaction with the Prime Minister's decision, which once again confirmed the quality of cooperation between the Government and the social partners, which has reached a high degree of mutual trust. At the meeting, the social partners particularly pointed out that this decision became especially important because it was made in the conditions of a severe economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
At the meeting, PM Marković thanked the social partners for their correctness and full understanding, saying that he decided on this move despite the fact that this Law needs significant additional funding in the medium and long term during a severe crisis during which the primary goal is to maintain economic substance.
"This marks successful cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the social partners. It is the result of our moral obligation to enable our oldest population to enjoy the results of their work and to feel as little as possible the incalculable economic consequences that the crisis caused by the coronavirus brings with it. We are finalizing the third package of support measures, and the Government is making maximum possible efforts in all fields to mitigate as much as possible the consequences of the hitherto unprecedented negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic," said Prime Minister Duško Marković.
