PM Marković in Kotor: I saw three aspects of responsible government - investing in future, successful valorisation of cultural heritage and care for citizens

Kotor, Montenegro (16 July 2020) -- "My visit to Kotor today showed three aspects of responsible government: First, investing in the future, in development, second, successful and quality valorisation of the cultural heritage of the city of Kotor and the entire Gulf and third, care for the health of the population and its safety and prosperity," Prime Minister Duško Marković noted tonight, following a working visit to Kotor.

Reconstructed Health Centre

The Prime Minister visited the Health Centre, where the reconstruction and equipping of the premises of the organisational unit of selected doctors for adults, with an area of 550 m2, has just been completed. The complete space was reconstructed and modernized, modern equipment was procured and better conditions were provided for both, the work of the employees and for the stay of the patients. 

As part of the investment, the entire space is equipped with new furniture and medical devices. The value of the investment, which was provided partly from the budget of the Health Insurance Fund, and mostly provided by the Kotor Health Centre from its own funds, amounts to EUR 120.000.

Underground passage - for the safety of citizens and tourists 

Prime Minister Duško Marković and President of the Municipality of Kotor Željko Aprcović opened an underground passage under the main road Kotor - Herceg Novi, worth more than EUR 1.600.000. The passage is equipped with electric escalators and special elevators for people with disabilities. 

This investment regulates pedestrian traffic, which was a problem and prevented the continuous flow of car and pedestrian traffic in the inner city area, especially in the summer months when due to the arrival of a large number of cruisers, the location is additionally burdened by cruise tourists, who want closer contact with the Old Town and its sights.

Restoration of the Prison building in the Old Town of Kotor

The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with a visit to the Old Prison building, which is being reconstructed into a creative hub with residential facilities. In this space, following the performed work and equipping, there will be facilities for artists (single and double apartments), artist work (studio and studio, depending on the area), organisation of workshops, seminars and conferences, as well as a coffee bar with kitchen. Part of the space will be given for use to local artists and creative entrepreneurs.

The total value of the approved project is EUR 4,281,675.26, and the budget of the Ministry of Culture, as the main partner, is EUR 1,271,336.81, and the national co-financing from its own budget is EUR 190,700.53.

New five-star hotel "Blue Kotor Bay" opened

The Prime Minister also opened the reconstructed Blue Kotor Bay Hotel, which was built on the site of the former Hotel Vrmac.

The premium resort and five-star health complex within the Vrmac Institute, is owned by the "Krolbay" company. The Investment and Development Fund financed this project in the amount of EUR 7,000,000. The complete reconstruction of the building was done in just eight months.

The facility will be open all year round, and it is intended as a hotel for those over 16 years of age. The capacity of the hotel is 106 accommodation units with 216 beds.

The facility has a spa and wellness centre, a private beach and a beachfront restaurant. The opening of the health centre is planned for the autumn.

Citizens of Kotor long enough have been hostages to irresponsible politics 

Prime Minister Duško Marković concluded, at the end of his visit, that the citizens of Kotor were unfortunately the victims of an irresponsible policy in the previous period. "But today we see that Kotor is a city where work is being done, where there is a vision of the future and which is developing. Confirmation of this are the facilities worth more than EUR 10.5 million - completed or in operation - which I visited today," said Prime Minister Duško Marković, at the end of his working visit to Kotor.
