Podgorica, Montenegro (31 July 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted UK Ambassador to Podgorica, Alison Kemp in a farewell visit, and on that occasion, the strong bilateral relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Northern Ireland were noted.

The UK will continue to support the Euro-Atlantic vision of Montenegro, because, as the interlocutors agreed, it is important for security and stability in our country and in the Western Balkans.

"I want to thank you for everything you have done to strengthen bilateral relations between Montenegro and the UK. The overall support for democratization and strengthening of the state and institutions, as well as our foreign policy goals, concretised through a large number of different projects, are proof of friendship and commitment," said Prime Minister Marković.

He added that in the coming period, it is important to strengthen economic cooperation and strengthen investment potentials, which should be contributed by the expected signing of the Agreement on partnership, trade and cooperation between the UK and Montenegro. Prime Minister Marković considers that the two countries, as allies within NATO, should continue to work on issues of security and safety.

Ambassador Kemp emphasised that she wants to encourage the continuation of reform processes in Montenegro, and pointed to the need for stronger social inclusion. She added that the UK has supported Montenegro in the fight against COVID-19, and that it further wants to help the socio-economic recovery of our country.

Praising and assessing the Third package of socio-economic measures as courageous, Ambassador Kemp positively assessed the improvement in the field of IT and innovation, and noted that the Embassy supports activities of the UNDP in this area.
