PM Marković meets with Ambassador Orav: EU proved to be true friend to Montenegro and Western Balkans

Podgorica, Montenegro (31 July 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted a farewell visit by EU Ambassador to Montenegro Aivo Orav and thanked him for supporting development and the overall reforms, which are expected to result in faster progress on the path to the EU, but also the improved quality of life for our citizens. 

"With the opening of  final negotiation chapter and the accepting of new negotiation metodology, we are entering a new phase of this process. Montenegro will make every effort to ensure greater dynamics and commitment to the further process, by strenthening institutions and making them sustainable," the Prime Minister noted. 

The Prime Minister highligted rapid and generous support of the EU, in responding to the challenges of coronavirus, through donation of protective and other medical equipment, grants and loans. 

"It is a proof of strategic commitment of the European Union. Even in this crises, it has been confirmed that the EU is a true friend to Montenegro and the Western Balkans," Prime Minister Marković pointed out. 

Ambassador Orav assessed that during his mandate, the cooperation was excellent and that it is time to intensify the negotiations, i.e. to efficiently close the negotiation chapters. 

''I am glad to say that the EU fulfills its promises. I hope that we established good foundations for rapid progress in the period ahead. A lot has been done in Montenegro, but a lot of work still remains to be done, which requires the joint efforts of all political actors in Montenegro," said Ambassador Orav.
