The new provisions of the Law on water management financing, which was adopted on Thursday, prescribe a much fairer distribution of fees to municipalities for the use of reservoirs. On this basis, the Municipality of Nikšić will generate additional annual revenues of about EUR 2 million.
Amendments to the Law prescribe a much fairer distribution of fees to municipalities for the use of reservoirs, said Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović, explaining the Draft Law.
"In order to make a proper distribution of fees, as well as the valorisation of space, the assessment is that it is necessary to introduce the obligation of paying fees based on the area of submerged useful land that could be used for agricultural, urban and other infrastructure development. We may state that the application of the Law on Financing of Water Management will enable a much fairer distribution of funds for the use of reservoirs, which will ultimately be a significant benefit for local self-government units and even for the State," DPM Simović pointed out.
The Law stipulates that the Electric Power Industry of Montenegro, as a user of accumulations, annually pays about EUR 2 million to the Municipality of Nikšić.
