At the end of his working visit to Ulcinj today, Prime Minister Duško Marković said that he was encouraged by the started infrastructure projects and improved hotel facilities, that the Government would continue to help Ulcinj overcome the blow struck by the coronavirus epidemic, and that Ulcinj must use all its potentials and be the main driving force of Montenegro's tourism development in the coming years.
"During today's visit to Ulcinj, I was clearly convinced of the heavy blow struck by the coronavirus pandemic to our tourism. It was impossible to avoid the serious consequences that the whole world has suffered these months, even the most developed tourist destinations. On this day, Ulcinj was full of tourists in previous years, and you can see what the promenade next to Mala plaža looks like today... Tourism suffers, but also agriculture, trade, traffic, of course the municipal budget suffers, and we are very aware that we have to find ways for helping business people and for the functioning of local self-government. Our three financial assistance packages so far are going in that direction and I believe that we have significantly mitigated the consequences of reduced economic activities in the past six months," said the Prime Minister at the end of the visit.
Development is the best response to the global crisis
At the end of the visit, Prime Minister Duško Marković repeated this morning's message to the municipal management that no construction site should be closed because development is the best response to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
"It will take time for a complete recovery, but also the continuation of investment activities without waiting for the pandemic to pass. In that sense, I am encouraged by what I saw today in Ulcinj, when it comes to started infrastructure projects, but also the improvement of hotel facilities. With the complete reconstruction of the Hotel of the Pension and Disability Insurance, we have created high-quality conditions for the stay of our pensioners throughout the year; and I am especially glad that, regardless of the coronavirus crisis, the construction of the first hotel and tourist resort in the area of Velika plaža begins. Along with the already completed resort of Karisma Group, the face of Velika plaža is also changing, and the new Government will focus on finding the best solution for the valorisation of Ada Bojana" – said the Prime Minister.
The renovated Hotel of the Pension and Disability Insurance, which the Prime Minister opened toda, is worth EUR 2.6 million.
The Prime Minister also visited the construction site of the tourist complex on Velika plaža.
Gratitude to business people for supporting the Government with indisputable results
During his working visit to Ulcinj, the Prime Minister also talked to local business people.
Expressing gratitude to them for the efforts they made during the pandemic, as well as for their solidarity, PM Marković especially emphasised the important support of the economy to the Government's efforts during its mandate.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Government's response was not lacking and that during the pandemic, 163,000 employees received direct assistance, and based on electronic applications, EUR 40 million of support was distributed to the economy in three months.
The Government supports Ulcinj agriculture projects
Prime Minister Duško Marković also visited the agricultural complex of the company Voli in Šas and announced that the Government sees serious potentials for the development of agriculture in the Ulcinj municipality.
"Products from Ulcinj are already significantly present in our stores and the Government will be ready to support such projects, in order to reduce import dependence in relation to what we can produce both better and cheaper," said the Prime Minister.
Support of the Government and own potentials
At the end of the visit, Prime Minister Duško Marković told the residents of Ulcinj that they could count on the further support of the Government.
"In the coming period, the Government will continue to find ways to help this city overcome the blow struck by the coronavirus, and we must all look to the future and achieve the vision of accelerated development of this area. Ulcinj must use all its potentials and be the main driving force of Montenegro's tourism development in the coming years" – said Prime Minister Duško Marković at the end of his working visit to Ulcinj.
Minister of Finance Darko Radunović also paid a working visit to Ulcinj.
