The World Bank's Board of Directors, at a session held late last week, approved EUR 15 million in loans for the imminent start of capital infrastructure works on the regulation of Lim and Grnčar.

With the implementation of this project, the Government of Montenegro will solve decades of problems caused by floods in Bijelo Polje, Berane, Gusinje and Plav, protect the environment and property of citizens, and especially agricultural land from permanent loss.

The construction of multi-purpose revetments and the arrangement of riverbeds in the area of four municipalities will significantly improve the quality of life of the local population and open a new perspective for the development of these municipalities, based on agricultural and tourist potentials.

An international tender for the construction of the revetments on Grnčar and Lim is expected to be announced by the end of August, in accordance with the World Bank procedures.

The built revetments on Lim and Grnčar will be multifunctional. In addition to protecting from floods caused by these torrential rivers, there will also be modern promenades.
