Minister Bogdanović tells Standard: Our goal is to make cultural scene ready for end of pandemic

"From everything that has been done in this department in this mandate, I would like to single out new areas within the culture that have come to life in a short period of time. First of all, I mean the sphere of creative industries, where we already have three realised competitions, many products and dozens of Montenegrin artists who, thanks to the Creative Montenegro programme, managed to present themselves to the domestic and regional market," said Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović in an interview with Standard.
Minister Bogdanović mentioned that during the past two years, support for creative industries in Montenegro has evolved from projects that belong to conventional creativity, to new ideas in the field of gaming and ICT.
"Another new field we worked on in parallel was the establishment of regional creative centres, i.e. hubs, as multifunctional locations of importance for both our creators and future residential programmes. In that context, I would mention projects in Kotor, Bar, Podgorica, Bijelo Polje and Šavnik, where we already have, or will soon have, centres that will significantly contribute to better conditions for the regional art scene in Montenegro," added Minister Bogdanović.
He also emphasised that the support of the Government of Montenegro to the creators is more generous from year to year – both direct, through competitions and programmes, and indirect, through funds provided to cultural institutions, professional and amateur organisations, ensembles, art programmes...
Looking back at the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he reminded that from March until today, culture creators have been supported with the amount of close to EUR one million.
"Our key goal is to make the cultural scene as ready as possible to welcome the end of the pandemic, that is, the current measures, because the audience, after an almost half-year break, is eager for artistic programmes. From the current perspective, it seems that the return of culture, i.e. the opening of theater and cinema halls, will symbolically represent the return of society to regular flows, to life as it was before March," said Minister Bogdanović.
When asked whether the new legal solution regulates the system of functioning of the commercial media community and the Public broadcasting service in Montenegro, and how the state will solve the problem of numerous web portals, which present themselves as media and are not registered with the Agency for Electronic Media, Minister Bogdanović said that the two laws passed late last month are without a doubt significantly better than the previous ones, perhaps the best in the region.
"This especially refers to the Law on Media, which brings numerous innovative provisions, but also recognises web portals for the first time as a part of the media scene in Montenegro. Transparency of ownership and publication of impressum will be the obligation of all media, including the web portals. Is that the final solution in terms of portals that predominantly deal with the spread of misinformation - of course not. But this is not just our problem, we share it with many countries, so we are working together to find solutions that will lead to even more visible results in the fight against fake news. It is a process that will last, and which will, of course, give birth to new methods of those who deal with misinformation, and we must have adequate answers to that. This aspect must be one of the key ones when it comes to the media in the next mandate of the Government of Montenegro," said Minister Bogdanović.
