During his working visit to Pljevlja, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović met with representatives of the forestry and wood processing sector, with whom he discussed the situation, challenges and plans in this sector.

The forestry and wood processing sector is one of the few that recorded a significant growth of 20% even in the time of the coronavirus.

"The ongoing reform of the forest management system will bring more fairness and more responsibility and ensure greater availability of wood, especially for smaller producers.

In the previous concession system of forest management, the local self-government in Pljevlja was left without income from concessions, new expected jobs, despite significant investments that have already been realised and which in the future must and will be the driver of local economic development. It will be the only indicator of success of every entrepreneur, both large and small, an indicator of sustainability of these projects, an indicator of relation towards employees and an indicator of compliance with tax obligations towards the Municipality and the state," said DPM Simović.

The meeting emphasised the need for further improvement of the capacity of the Forest Administration, a more responsible attitude of concessionaires towards road infrastructure in rural areas.

Furthermore, it was pointed out that there is a realistic expectation that already launched numerous development projects in Pljevlja will contribute to the placement of products in the wood processing sector.
