Pljevlja, Montenegro (3 September 2020) -- Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić said earlier afternoon from Pljevlja, that serious investigations are being worked on, that the greatest responsibility lies with those who created, with their nationalist speeches, an atmosphere for what is happening in Pljevlja, and that living together is sacred to all of us.
"I am here in Pljevlja, to inform our citizens that we seriously have been working on investigations and that we will use all legal means to find perpetrators of heinous criminal offenses striking at the foundation of Montenegro. I would like to highlight that we also have investigated whether there are principals. But also to assess that they do not have to exist, if someone, during the campaign, continuously created an atmosphere for this to happen to members of minorities. With those who advocate raising of monuments to fascists, those who shout nationalist slogans, sing nationalist songs and encourage others to do so - lie the greatest responsibility for these events, because they create the atmosphere for this. This is a cause and effect relationship, which cannot be ignored nor be concealed by unsubstantial allegations about alleged acts of the secret police. Attacks on every citizen, on the basis of nation and religion, are attacks on multinational and multi-religious harmony that is the greatest wealth that Montenegro has and by which it is recognizable in the region and beyond," said the Minister of the Interior following the meetings with the President of Municipality of Pljevlja, the Head of the Security Centre, representatives of the political parties namely: the Democratic Party of Socialist, the Social Democrats, the Bosniak Party and the Social Democratic Party, as well as other prominent Bosniak – Muslims from Pljevlja.
President of the Board of the Islamic Community of Pljevlja Muriz Muslić, stated that the Islamic Community has full confidence in the state and the state bodies, regarding the fact that all incidents will be processed and that the perpetrators will be held accountable.
Mayor of the Municipality of Pljevlja Igor Golubović emphasised that all events were analyzed at the meetings, and that the security was guaranteed to all citizens at the meeting with prominent Bosniak-Muslim citizens of Pljevlja.
"So there is no need for anyone to organize himself in securing religious facilities and religious institutions, for it is a job of the state and the state will make every effort so the security of all institutions and all of those who reside in them, may not be called into question," said the Municipality President.
Minister Nuhodžić stressed that no one should be allowed to demolish what we have been building for centuries, or to undermine multi-ethnic harmony, or to shake the confidence that minority people have in state.
"Montenegro has known how to deal with such phenoms even before. Today, Montenegro is strong. It is stronger and more powerful than those who want to disrupt a true coexistence and tolerance in our civic state, what we do not want and will not give up! Montenegro is our common home, from which we will not move! Even today, from Pljevlja, I am sending a message to all citizens: we will preserve peace, security and safety of every citizen, regardless of religion and nation! Once again, I call for peace and harmony, to be tolerant, to respect each other, our friends, our neighbours - because differences are not and should not be the destiny of our lives, but the most sublime and sacred value, which should be saved and preserved by all of us who live in Montenegro. Our common life is the sanctuary of all of us," said Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić at the end of his working visit to Pljevlja.
