Montenegro and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have excellent bilateral relations, good cooperation at the political level, which needs to be further enriched with stronger economic ties, said Prime Minister Duško Marković at a meeting with the new British Ambassador to Podgorica Karen Maddocks.
"We are very proud of and grateful for the partnership, cooperation and support we received from the UK on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration," PM Marković said.
Noting that cooperation has been achieved in numerous spheres, the Prime Minister especially emphasised the support in the area of the rule of law and strengthening of institutions.
Ambassador Maddocks pointed out that she would be committed to further improving cooperation between the UK and Montenegro, and that she hoped that a Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement would be signed soon, which would be the basis for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
Furthermore, she reminded that the two countries worked together to improve the business environment and competitiveness, energy, innovation and the digital agenda, and that support will continue in these and all other areas where significant results have been achieved – rule of law, defence, education.
Both sides agreed that it is extremely important for Montenegro to continue its European and Euro-Atlantic course, while Ambassador Maddocks said that the UK would continue to provide support in that direction.
