Government of the Republic of Korea donated 277,000 protective masks to Montenegro to support Montenegro's fight against COVID-19

The Government of the Republic of Korea has delivered 277,000 protective masks KF94 (equivalent to FFP2) as humanitarian assistance (donation) to support Montenegro in fight against COVID-19. The value of the donation is USD 200,000.00.

On the occasion of the delivery of the masks, an online ceremony was held on 20 October 2020 at 11:00 hrs, with attendance of Dr. Nermin Abdić, Head of the Crisis Medical Staff of Montenegro, and H.E. Mr. Hyoung-chan CHOE, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea. 

On behalf of Montenegro and the Montenegrin health system, the Head of the Crisis Medical Staff, Dr. Nermin Abdić, thanked for the valuable donation and the indicated friendship and commitment in such a complex situation in which all countries of the world find themselves.

- This valuable donation will certainly significantly contribute to combating the spread of the epidemic through the application of measures, primarily wearing masks. This is especially true for healthcare workers who are in direct contact with a COVID-19 patients and who must be adequately protected at all times. Thanks to our friends from Korea, but also other countries that provided this type of assistance during the epidemic, our health workers have full protective equipment, for which we are immensely grateful - said Dr. Abdić, calling on citizens once again to take responsibility and apply all measures protection.

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Hyoung-chan CHOE explained that Korea’s effective fight against COVID-19 has been successful by ramping up testing, contact tracing and early treatment, and Korean citizens have also been very cooperative by abiding by basic rules such as social distancing and wearing a mask. 

He further mentioned that Korea has extended assistance to those in need in the world including Montenegro, and expressed his great pleasure to see 277,000 FFP2 equivalent masks arrived in Montenegro from Korea. Describing the delivery of the masks to Montenegro as evidence of friendly and cooperative relation between the two countries, he expressed hope that the protective masks will be useful and helpful for the Montenegro authorities, in particular frontline health workers, to respond more effectively to the pandemic, and the two countries will continue to cooperate in health care systems and many other areas as well.

The two sides agreed to continue to consult each other to fight against the virus together.
