PM Marković hosts delegation of Montenegrin Council of Serbia: Full support for preservation of Montenegrin identity

Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted a delegation of the Montenegrin Council - the umbrella organization of Montenegrin emigrants in the Republic of Serbia.

The delegation, consisting of Deputy President of the Council Dragoljub - Gago Marković, President of the Association of Montenegrins of Novi Sad Božidar Marković, President of the National Union of Montenegrins from Belgrade Mirko Zečević and President of the Association of Montenegrins of Southeast Serbia Miloš Paović, thanked the Government for its assistance and presented to the Prime Minister the activities implemented on the preservation of the national and cultural identity of Montenegrins in Serbia and on the further strengthening of ties with the mother country.

The meeting noted that good neighbourliness as one of Montenegro's strategic policies leaves our diaspora in neighbouring countries a broad framework for preserving the Montenegrin identity, as well as constructive action with loyalty to the countries of which they are citizens.

Representatives of the Council expressed the need to establish and organise Montenegrin cultural centres in Serbia. The Prime Minister supported the idea of opening a cultural centre of Montenegro in the Republic of Serbia and other planned activities of the Montenegrin Council aimed at preserving the national consciousness and identity of Montenegrins in Serbia.

"Montenegro will actively support the Montenegrin community in Serbia in projects aimed at preserving and nurturing the Montenegrin identity with respect for the state of Serbia," PM Duško Marković said.

Director of the Directorate for Diaspora Predrag Mitrović also attended the meeting.
