Within the tenth To Be Secure Forum, the Minister of Defense, prof. Dr. Olivera Injac, spoke at a panel on “NATO 2030: Adapting to the New Security challenges and New Frontiers”.

Minister Injac said that NATO is the most powerful political-military alliance that has successfully preserved peace and stability in the Euro-Atlantic area for seven decades. Given the changing security environment, as well as new multidimensional threats, which go beyond traditional conflicts, the NATO 2030 strategic thinking process will result in ideas that will ensure that NATO remains as successful as ever.

Minister Injac pointed out that in the last few years, especially after the Summits in Wales and Warsaw, NATO has undergone the most comprehensive transformation since the Cold War, which has resulted in a strengthened military dimension of the Alliance. Nevertheless, changes on the global stage, accelerated technological development, as well as the COVID pandemic indicate the need to respond to non-military threats and strengthen the political dimension of the Alliance.

NATO must maintain a certain degree of flexibility and the ability to adapt, regardless of the circumstances, in order to be able to face security challenges, said Injac.

The Minister emphasized that Montenegro will remain committed to the system of collective security, through nurturing the values of the Alliance, further investment in the defense sector and strengthening defense capacities. She expressed her belief that the credibility of the Alliance is guaranteed if each of the member states remains committed to the transatlantic bond and the principle of solidarity and unity.

Besides the Montenegrin Minister of Defense, at the panel spoke: Mijo Kresic, Deputy Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Andrew Michta, Dean of the College of International and Security Studies at the George Marshall Center and Jamie Shea, Professor of Strategy and Security at Exter University, too.
