The town of Podgorica is a center of the Municipality of Podgorica occupying an area of mere 1500 km2 or 10.7% of the total territory of the Republic of Montenegro.
Situated in the north area of the Zeta Valley, Podgorica benefits from being in the heart of Montenegro beating on the crossroads of several important roads leading to the seaside and finally reaching the continental region of the Republic.
Podgorica lies at 44.5 meters above sea level.
Geographical location: north latitude 42.26o; east longitude 19.16o.
Current population of Podgorica counts 150 000 residents. Road and railroad infrastructure connect Podgorica to the coastal area being 60 km afar and the 70 km distant mountain centers.
Climate of Podgorica is influenced by the Adriatic Sea. The influence spreads through the river Bojana valley and over Skadar Lake. The Mediterranean climate varies under the surrounding orography granting Podgorica with the modified Mediterranean climate manifesting in worm and hot summers and mild and rainy winters. Due to the Adriatic temperature influence Podgorica has high air temperature over winter period.
