Regional cooperation is a key to the European future of the whole region, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and Head of UNMIK Lamberto Zannier agreed at their meeting in Podgorica. The path which Montenegro follows towards the EU and NATO, by promoting cooperation among neighbors, can serve as a role model, said Zannier.
The Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo so far and voiced Montenegro’s readiness to help develop, through regional incentives, a stable and prosperous region as soon as possible. Integration into the EU and NATO is the best guarantee for this and the fastest way of overcoming the traumas of the recent past in this area, noted the Prime Minister.
Recognizing Kosovo’s independence is a responsible attitude to reality, but also a solution leading to the strengthening of stability.
The Head of UNMIK said that the European Union’s role and its increased influence in the region and Kosovo was very important for normalizing relations between the countries of the region.
Djukanovic and Zanier have agreed that the status of refugees needs to be attended to, which requires the help and support of the international community.
