Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic has met with NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General Robert Simons Robert Simons.
NATO will retain its open-door policy for new members and in doing so it will respect the principle of judging each country’s progress on its own merit, said Simons. He noted that Montenegro was highly dedicated to the MAP process, having made very good reform results faster than other countries. During his talks with Prime Minister Djukanovic, Simons underlined that Montenegro and NATO shared a common vision of regional stability and security.
Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic confirmed that NATO membership would remain among Montenegro’s top foreign policy priorities, as a guarantee for stability in the Western Balkans. This has been confirmed by Montenegro’s success in completing all the stages of its path to the Membership Action Plan. On the path to full NATO membership, Montenegro will continue to be a reliable partner, dedicated to reforms and good regional relations, said the Prime Minister.
According to Prime Minster Djukanovic, Montenegro will continue to work hard on strengthening the rule of law, as it realizes that this it the key challenge facing the region as a whole. The NATO official complimented Montenegro on its contribution to regional and collective security and cooperation, which he said resulted in Montenegro being invited to participate in the decision-making process.
