Montenegro and Croatia signed Friday, October 1, a momentous bilateral agreement on the extradition of criminals in severe crimes cases.

The treaty which sanctions the extradition of own citizens will be in force as of the day of signing and will send a clear message to cross-border criminals that the frontier between Montenegro and Croatia is no longer a barrier for enforcing justice, agreed the Montenegrin Minister of Justice Miras Radovic with his Croatian counterpart Drazen Bosnjakovic after signing the treaty.

Minister Radovic announced that this agreement represents an important step forward in cooperation and contribution of Montenegro and Croatia in the areas of justice and fight against organized crime. He also stated that the agreement helps create conditions in which no major criminal will go unpunished.

Minister Bosnjakovic said that one of the top policy priorities of Croatia, fight against corruption and organized crime both domestically and in an international framework, is being met with the signing of this agreement. He stated that an agreement which sanctions the fight against these acute problems of the international community is a strategic goal of the Croatian political system and that it strengthens institutions and legislation.

Minister Radovic stressed that the agreement is in accordance with relevant international conventions, especially the European Convention on Extradition.
