Minority rights are best protected through strengthening the rule of law. The political changes that took place in 2020 showed that democracy in Montenegro is still developing, and in order to reduce tensions, it is necessary to shift the focus to topics related to the living standards, said Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović at the meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov.

Speaking about the importance of participation of minority parties in the government in Montenegro, as a multiethnic and multi-confessional state, Abazović pointed out that the 42nd Government of Montenegro has done more for municipalities with predominantly minorities than the previous government in three decades.

Thanking for the warm welcome, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov stressed the need to protect the rights of minorities and their greater inclusion in social processes.

Abazović and Abdrakhmanov also discussed the position of religious communities in Montenegro and the importance of contribution of political entities to calming tensions in society.
