Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met today with Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Maja Jovanović and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović.

I welcome the results achieved by the State Prosecutor's Office led by the new leadership, in a very short period of time, which led to the opening of numerous cases in the field of high-level corruption and organised crime, as well as prosecution of suspected officials from the judiciary, Prosecutor's Office and police. The Government of Montenegro gives full support to the Prosecutor's Office in the fight against crime, said PM Abazović.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the changes in the Prosecutorial Council showed the domestic and international public that necessary amendments to the Law on State Prosecutor's Office were a precondition for a real fight against crime and corruption.

Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Jovanović pointed out that the Prosecutorial Council had shown in the previous period that there was no reason to question the professionalism of its members and that it would continue to ensure the independence of the State Prosecutor's Office in accordance with the Constitution and laws.

Acting Supreme State Prosecutor Maja Jovanović and Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović pointed out that there are big problems in the functioning of these institutions, especially concerning office accommodation and the number of professional staff who need to help prosecutors in their work, adding that these problems negatively affects their productivity.

Abazović stated that the needs of the Prosecutor's Office in terms of capacity, staff and financial support are disproportionate to what is provided to them and concluded that the Government of Montenegro will strive to provide maximum support in this context, in order to ensure unhindered fight against crime and high-level corruption of these judicial bodies.

The citizens of Montenegro are eager for justice and that is why they have high expectations. I am especially pleased with the fact that with visible results in a very short period of time, public confidence in the work of the Supreme and Special State Prosecutor's Offices has begun to grow. The Government will provide open support to the Prosecutor's Office, the leadership and state prosecutors, as well as other competent institutions in tackling crime groups in order to ensure justice, Prime Minister Abazović pointed out.
