Abazović: Process of dehumanization in post-ideological society confirms the need for global ethics
Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović spoke today at the opening of the international scientific conference "Enhancement: Cognitive, Moral and Mood", organised by the Center for the Study of Bioethics in Belgrade and the University of Oxford.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister addressed ethical issues in the context of the global pandemic and pointed out that it is the best proof of why it is necessary to establish a minimum consensus on values in the global community, stating that the deglobalization process has increased ethics.
The process of deglobalization significantly accelerated after 2016 and the elections in the United States, when the thesis of strengthening the Nation State was present again. However, the COVID-19 situation has confirmed the need for global solidarity as never before, said DPM Abazović.
Abazović referred to the thesis of philosopher Peter Sloterdijk about the "society of terror" and explained that if terror was literally translated as fear, then the COVD-19 situation would fully depict the society of fear, regardless of the material and political power of any country in the world.
The process of dehumanization in a post-ideological society confirms the need to affirm global solidarity through the concept of global ethics, said the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro.
Abazović supported the efforts of researchers, especially in the field of medicine, emphasising that bioethics must develop in parallel with new technological discoveries.
Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović pointed out that in a global sense, it is difficult to imagine that anyone can solve problems on their own, and therefore theoretical thinking should be affirmed, which could be applied in practice one day.
No society can survive without fundamental values, which also applies to the global community, Abazović concluded.
