I think we have made a huge step forward, which should be a good foundation for what we all want, and that is to return the Salina to its former glory so that it can produce salt and remain an important ecological point for the whole of Europe, said Prime Minister Dritan Abazović at the opening of the 6th International Conference on the Protection of the Salina Ulcinj.

Abazović recalled that the Privatisation Council made a decision to register 15 million square meters as state property. He emphasised that the property worth at least 200 million euros was returned to state ownership and that this was a progress compared to the previous conference, given that the ownership issue has been resolved.

Prime Minister Abazović thanked all international partners for the support and stressed the excellent cooperation with the German Embassy, which hired an expert for the revitalisation of the Salina and the entire area of the Bojana river delta. In addition, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank the Center for Protection and Research of birds of Montenegro (CZIP), the Martin Schneider Jacoby Association (MSJA) and other representatives of the NGO sector for all the activities to protect the Salina Ulcinj in the previous period.

We have solved the most complex issue, but there are numerous challenges ahead of us, as well as and solving acute problems, such as the status of workers. I think we can make progress very quickly when it comes to the Salina. I am sure that we are all on a mission to bring the Salina back to life. Our vision is for it to become a regional tourism brand due to its nature, birds, flamingos, but also to produce extremely high-quality sea salt. This would also benefit the Municipality of Ulcinj, the state and citizens, Prime Minister Abazović concluded.
