Abazović: Roma will find their place in the sun

Roma inclusion will be more important than it was and they will find their place in the sun, as well as other citizens in our country. It is our obligation and duty, granted by the Constitution, not the good will of individuals or institutions, Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović said in the opening address at the event, which was organised on the occasion of the Roma Holocaust Memorial Day, 2 August.

DPM Abazović emphasised that the Government is here to send a clear message to the Roma community that the full inclusion is welcome, in a new and modern Montenegro where there are no second-class citizens.

Noting that 30 to 50% of all Holocaust victims were members of the Roma population, Abazović said that all victims should be viewed identically, regardless of their background, adding that the only goal is that it never happens again.

I hope that we will do everything to make civil society in Montenegro alive, to leave the past far behind, to build a more beautiful, positive future, the future of inclusion of all people, all people without differences, to build a rich society and to remember innocent victims from the past, Abazović concluded.

The commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the Roma Holocaust Memorial Day was organised by the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights - Directorate for Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians, in cooperation with the Montenegrin National Theater.
