Abazović speaks at Southeastern Europe Democracy Summit
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović took part in the fourth annual Southeastern Europe Democracy Summit (SEE|DEM), titled “Seeking Security on a Year of Uncertainty”, in Budva.
Combating corruption in the Western Balkans will open up opportunities for institutions to function much better, to promote much more justice, to reconcile different countries, peoples, religious organisations and identities. Then we will be more focused on the future and less focused on topics from the past, said the Prime Minister at the opening of the Summit organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI).
Prime Minister Abazović pointed out that all political topics and problems can be more easily overcome if everyone in the region shows serious results in the fight against organised crime and corruption.
As things are revealed in the fight against organised crime and corruption, it will be clear to citizens that they have been manipulated all along and that they have defended interests that are not really theirs, neither state nor national, but private, Prime Minister Abazović said.
When it comes to foreign malign influence, the Prime Minister assessed that the most fertile soil for foreign influence is one where there are no strong institutions. This influence is being suppressed by strengthening the institutions, he added.
When it comes to the fight against organised crime and corruption in Montenegro, the weakest link, according to Prime Minister Abazović, is the judicial branch of government.
The Prime Minister reminded that former President of the Supreme Court Vesna Medenica and former President of the Commercial Court Blažo Jovanić will soon appear in court on a criminal charge of organised crime and corruption.
