Agricultural production plays an important role in the economy of Montenegro and it significantly contributes to the Gross Domestic Product, alongside with forestry and fisheries. Agriculture and tourism are two developmental and economic priorities of national economy.

An important factor in creating agricultural policy is the integration commitment of Montenegro and respect of provisions of international agreements. Agricultural policy makers strive to harmonize the legislative framework with European legislation, to enable encouraging economic environment for agricultural development and define development roadmaps and measures to support the development of agriculture, while acknowledging production potential, level of development and necessities of our farmers.

Sustainable agriculture policy is a concept that strives towards the increase of volume and quality of agricultural production while respecting and preserving natural resources.

Apart from national financial support, agricultural producers successfully exercise possibilities of financing their activities from international funds (MIDAS, IPARD, and others).

Considering that climatic, edaphic and orographic factors determine the structure of agricultural production, the dominant form of agricultural production in our country is livestock production.
