Characteristics of the state border

The borders of Montenegro with the former republics within the former SFRY were determined and defined in accordance with the Constitution of the SFRY from 1974, and as such, after the restoration of independence, they were recognized and confirmed as state.

The state border of Montenegro stretches by land, sea, lakes and rivers and its length is about 840.4 km. The state border on land (hereinafter: the green border) is 571.6 km long, on lakes 50.5 km, on rivers 81.3 km and on the sea 137 km (hereinafter: the blue border).

Towards the Republic of Croatia, the length of the state border is about 41.7 km (19.7 km on the green border and 22 km on the blue border), Bosnia and Herzegovina about 254.4 km (204.5 km on the green border and 49.9 km on blue border), the Republic of Serbia about 168.5 km (161.7 km on the green border and 6.8 km on the blue border), the Republic of Kosovo about 75.6 km (72.4 km on the green border and 3.2 km on blue border), the Republic of Albania about 207.2 km (113.3 km on the green border and 93.9 km on the blue border). The length of the border on the territorial sea is about 93 km.

There are 29 border crossing points on the territory of Montenegro, namely: road 19, air 2, maritime 6 and railway 2, of which, towards the Republic of Croatia there are 2 border crossing points, Bosnia and Herzegovina 8, the Republic of Serbia 6, the Republic of Kosovo 1 and the Republic of Albania 4 border crossing points.
