DPM Ivanović meets with newly appointed EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović held a meeting today with the newly appointed Ambassador of the European Union to Montenegro, Johann Sattler.
During the cordial and substantive conversation, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Sattler, particularly highlighting the current stage and dynamics of Montenegro's EU accession negotiations.
Ivanović praised the excellent cooperation Montenegro had with the former EU ambassador and expressed hope that such collaboration would continue. He also commended the European Commission for its strong support and reaffirmed that the goal is to close all negotiation chapters by the end of the current government's mandate.
Ambassador Sattler acknowledged Montenegro as a leader in European integration, not just on paper but in practice. He emphasised that the goal set by Montenegro is realistic and achievable, provided that the country maintains political stability. Sattler assured that Montenegro would continue to receive all necessary support and assistance from the European Union in this endeavor.
The discussion also touched on the recently adopted EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, with particular focus on reforms that will directly benefit citizens, such as access to the single market, the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), roaming, etc.
Both sides emphasised the importance of good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation. Ambassador Sattler praised Montenegro’s positive role in fostering such relations, while Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović reiterated Montenegro’s openness to dialogue and resolving any potential issues with neighbouring countries.
The significance of European integration for the entire region was also highlighted, with both parties agreeing that the European Union would not be complete without the inclusion of Western Balkan countries. Ivanović reaffirmed Montenegro’s strong support for the EU's open-door policy.
In conclusion, the two officials exchanged views on various internal and regional developments.
