DPM Ivanović participates in United Nations Summit of the Future
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović addressed the plenary session of the United Nations "Summit of the Future" on 23 September 2024.
In his speech, DPM Ivanović welcomed the adoption of the "Pact for the Future" and the consensus achieved, highlighting the ambitious nature of the document aimed at providing guidelines for tackling global challenges. He expressed support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his "New Agenda for Peace," emphasising the need to strengthen the UN's role in disarmament and the importance of collective security in conflict prevention.
Additionally, Ivanović underscored the importance of the annexes to the "Pact for the Future" – the "Global Digital Compact" and the "Declaration on Future Generations." These, he noted, are critical for bridging the global digital divide and encouraging greater youth participation in decision-making processes.
On the same day, Ivanović participated in an interactive dialogue during the summit, titled "The Future Starts Now: Enhancing the Global System for Current and Future Generations." He informed high-level UN representatives about Montenegro's efforts to meet sustainable development goals, contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
As part of his activities at the summit, Ivanović attended a high-level reception for heads of delegations organised by Germany and Namibia, where he had a brief conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
