For Montenegro, European and Euro-Atlantic values have no alternative
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović is in Munich, participating in the 61st Munich Security Conference.
The Munich Security Conference is one of the most significant international forums for exchanging views on global security issues and challenges. This year’s 61st edition has gathered over 700 participants, including heads of state, ministers, representatives of international organizations, academia, civil society, and business leaders. The discussions focus on current global security challenges, regional conflicts, and the future of the transatlantic partnership.
In addition to participating in numerous panel discussions on security, multilateralism, and hybrid threats, Minister Ibrahimović has held several bilateral meetings with officials from other states and international organizations.
During these discussions, he reaffirmed Montenegro’s commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values and to preserving a global order based on rules and dialogue. He emphasized the importance of strengthening stability in the Western Balkans, stating that "the European future is the safest path to lasting security and further prosperity for the region."
On the first day of the conference, Minister Ibrahimović met with U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Lieutenant General Michael Fenzel. The two exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, agreeing on the importance of synchronizing international efforts to achieve a lasting and sustainable resolution. The Minister welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, expressing hope that this will pave the way for Gaza’s reconstruction and long-term reconciliation. He reiterated Montenegro’s support for a two-state solution based on UN resolutions.
In his meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, the importance of continuously strengthening relations between Montenegro and Kosovo was highlighted. These relations are based on mutual trust, good neighbourly cooperation, and a shared European and Euro-Atlantic perspective. Minister Ibrahimović affirmed Montenegro’s continued support for Kosovo’s foreign policy aspirations and stressed the importance of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Both officials agreed that there is mutual interest in strengthening economic cooperation, including infrastructure projects that would enhance connectivity.
The Munich Security Conference programme continues today, with the central theme focused on multipolarization. Discussions on the second day will address regional conflicts and crises, the role of the EU and support for Ukraine, transatlantic security and the economic dimension of security.
