For Montenegro, european and euro-atlantic values have no alternative

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ervin Ibrahimović, is currently in Munich, participating in the 61st Munich Security Conference.

The Munich Security Conference is one of the most significant international forums for exchanging views on global security issues and challenges. This year’s 61st edition gathered over 700 participants, including heads of state, ministers, representatives from international organizations, the academic community, civil society, and business, with discussions focusing on current global security challenges, regional conflicts, and the future of transatlantic partnership.

In addition to participating in numerous panel discussions on security, multilateralism, and hybrid threats, Minister Ibrahimović held several bilateral meetings with officials from other countries and international organizations.

During discussions and talks, he emphasized Montenegro's commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values, as well as the preservation of a world order based on rules and dialogue. He highlighted the importance of strengthening stability in the Western Balkans, stating that "the European future is the safest path to building lasting security and further prosperity in the region."

On the first day of the conference, Ibrahimović met with the U.S. Security Coordinator for Palestine and Israel, General Michael Fenzel. They exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, stressing the importance of synchronizing the efforts of the international community to achieve a lasting and sustainable solution. The Minister emphasized that Montenegro welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, expressing hope that it would enable the beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza and long-term reconciliation, while reaffirming Montenegro's commitment to a two-state solution to the conflict, based on UN resolutions.

In discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, the importance of continuous improvement of relations between Montenegro and Kosovo was highlighted, based on mutual trust, good neighborliness, and a shared European and Euro-Atlantic perspective. The Minister stated that Montenegro will continue to support Kosovo’s foreign policy aspirations and reminded of the importance of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. The interlocutors agreed that there is mutual interest in strengthening economic cooperation, including infrastructure projects, which would contribute to better connectivity.

The Munich Security Conference program continues today, with the central theme of this year’s discussions being multipolarity. On the second day, there will be more discussion on regional conflicts and crises, the role of the EU and support for Ukraine, transatlantic security, EU-NATO-U.S. cooperation, and the economic dimension of security.
