Government pledges full support to State Prosecutor’s Office
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković. The two officials agreed that the fight against all forms of crime is crucial for Montenegro's European path, and in that regard, the results achieved by the State Prosecutor’s Office hold significant importance for advancing the rule of law.
The meeting noted that the State Prosecutor’s Office is expected to contribute to fulfilling interim benchmarks and ultimately closing negotiation chapters 23 and 24.
One of the prerequisites for efficiency in work is the improvement of office accommodation and administrative capacities, and in that regard, the State Prosecutor’s Office requires concrete support from the Government, in terms of allocating necessary budgetary resources, stated Marković.
The Prime Minister announced that the prosecutorial authorities will receive concrete support from the Government to ensure better working conditions.
It is necessary to first address urgent issues so that we can effectively overcome all obstacles you face. This is very important because our work in the field of the rule of law will be assessed even when we become part of the European Union, said the Prime Minister.
In this regard, the relocation of the Special State Prosecutor’s Office to the old Government building will be ensured as soon as possible, which will also resolve the office accommodation issue of the Supreme and High State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica.
The Supreme State Prosecutor and the Prime Minister agreed that improving international legal cooperation will contribute to the more efficient work of the prosecutorial authorities, enabling Montenegrin state prosecutors to be fully prepared to collaborate and exchange experiences with colleagues from EU countries by 2028.
It was also concluded that the opening of the Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre in Montenegro will be of great assistance in combating cybercrime and an opportunity to further strengthen good relations with France and Slovenia, which are participating in the project.
