Ibrahimović attends the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated today in the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council in Valletta. He extended gratitude to Malta for its successful chairmanship and expressed full support for Finland as the next OSCE Chair.
During his address at the plenary session, Ibrahimović highlighted Montenegro's key foreign policy priorities, emphasizing the need to strengthen multilateralism and dialogue as the only path to upholding the values of the United Nations Charter and ensuring stability and security in the OSCE region.
The OSCE offers a unique platform where we can engage in dialogue and collectively find solutions, particularly in these times of escalating crises that we witness daily. This is why the consensus reached among all 57 participating states on the Organization’s new leadership, after a prolonged period of uncertainty, is so encouraging, Ibrahimović stated.
Speaking about the importance of regional cooperation and resilience against hybrid threats, Ibrahimović voiced concern over the influence of third parties, hybrid activities, and disinformation campaigns, which pose risks to the region's overall stability and progress.
We advocate for a comprehensive approach to security aimed at enhancing our resilience, in line with OSCE principles and commitments, Ibrahimović said. He also emphasized the role of the newly established Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre (WB3C) in Podgorica, a joint initiative by Montenegro, France, and Slovenia.
We believe the Centre, in collaboration with other countries in the region and international partners, including the OSCE, will contribute to a more stable and secure Western Balkans, Ibrahimović added.
He underscored OSCE's critical role in promoting peace and stability in Europe, supporting Ukraine, and striving for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace.
On the sidelines of the Ministerial Council, Minister Ibrahimović met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó. With Hungary currently holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union, discussions centered on Montenegro's progress in the EU accession process. Minister Szijjártó expressed strong support for the closure of four negotiation chapters at the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels. Both ministers agreed that a positive outcome from the Conference would send a significant signal not only for Montenegro but also for the Western Balkans and the EU as a whole.
