Ibrahimović-Doughty: Montenegro and the United Kingdom have built a strong partnership
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, met today with the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty, and the UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach.
During the meeting, it was assessed that relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom are very strong, based on solid friendship and NATO alliance.
Minister Ibrahimović stated that the United Kingdom is one of Montenegro’s key partners, with whom the country has built a strong alliance and dynamic bilateral cooperation.
“The contribution of our British partners to the implementation of democratic and structural reforms in our country has been particularly significant,” Ibrahimović emphasized. He pointed out that there is considerable potential for further strengthening cooperation, especially in the areas of economy, energy, and cybersecurity.
Ibrahimović highlighted Montenegro’s progress on its European path, reaffirming that EU accession remains the absolute priority. He also stressed Montenegro’s commitment to strengthening regional stability and security.
"A stable Western Balkans is our shared interest, and the UK’s support in strengthening security, democratic capacities, and the rule of law is invaluable in achieving this goal," Ibrahimović said.
UK Minister of State Stephen Doughty said that his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ibrahimović was an excellent opportunity to learn more about Montenegro’s efforts to play a stronger role on the international stage and in Europe – from joint defense and security matters as NATO allies to Montenegro’s support for Ukraine.
“We discussed deepening our bilateral cooperation for mutual development, security, and energy. Additionally, we talked about our roles in regional cooperation, strengthening institutional resilience, countering hybrid threats, and addressing common challenges,” Doughty stated.
Doughty emphasized that Montenegro’s future as a democratic and economically resilient country depends on continued reform efforts.
"The United Kingdom, as a key partner and friend, stands ready to support these efforts," he affirmed.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on current regional and global developments, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation and overall interstate relations.
