Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ervin Ibrahimović is visiting the United States, where, on the first day of his visit, he attended the traditional New Year's reception organized by the Consulate General of Montenegro in New York. The reception gathered representatives of the diplomatic corps, the business community, political life of the USA, as well as over 200 representatives of the Montenegrin diaspora in the USA.

In his address, Ibrahimović emphasized that Montenegro's full membership in NATO and a clear perspective of EU membership are guarantees of stability and further prosperity, expressing deep gratitude to the diaspora-expatriate members for their contribution to the development of Montenegro, as well as for maintaining close ties with their homeland.

"The diaspora represents a special value and link in the relations between Montenegro and the USA," Ibrahimović assessed, emphasizing that it also has an important role in promoting Montenegro's interests on a global level, and its development potentials, culture, and tradition.

"The Montenegrin diaspora in the United States is not only a bridge between our peoples, but also a strong factor in strengthening interstate ties, especially in the fields of economy, culture, and education. Your engagement in promoting and protecting the interests of Montenegro, as well as dedication to the homeland, even though you are far from it, is a great inspiration, but also an obligation for all of us. That is why we will continue to work together on the affirmation of all the potentials of our diaspora, here in the USA, as well as around the world, because it is an invaluable asset of Montenegro and our strongest economic branch," said Ibrahimović.

The reception was an opportunity to exchange ideas and plans with the aim of further strengthening close ties between the diaspora-expatriates and the homeland, and affirming the potentials and interests of Montenegro in the USA, to which an important contribution, along with diplomatic and consular missions, is given by diaspora-expatriate associations.
