Ibrahimović in Washington: Strong partnership with the U.S., focus on strengthening cooperation and support for Montenegro’s European path

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ervin Ibrahimović is visiting Washington, where, on the first day, he attended the 73rd National Prayer Breakfast and held meetings with Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, Congresswoman and Co-Chair of the Montenegro Caucus in Congress, Chellie Pingree, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Alexander Kasanof.

During the meetings, the long-standing friendship and substantive cooperation between Montenegro and the United States were highlighted, underscored by the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year. Discussions focused on further strengthening political dialogue and partnership, as well as enhancing institutional ties between Montenegro and the U.S. Congress.

In his conversation with Congresswoman Malliotakis, Minister Ibrahimović emphasized the importance of deepening overall bilateral relations and strategic cooperation within NATO. “We appreciate the efforts undertaken by the United States to strengthen stability and security in the Western Balkans.” Congresswoman Malliotakis reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to strongly supporting Montenegro’s European future and the continued development and prosperity of the region.

During the meeting with Congresswoman and Montenegro Caucus Co-Chair Pingree, Minister Ibrahimović expressed gratitude for her exceptional dedication to leading the Caucus and strengthening bilateral relations. He underscored the importance of U.S. institutional support for Montenegro’s reform processes aimed at advancing its EU membership aspirations. Congresswoman Pingree reaffirmed strong U.S. support for Montenegro’s reform efforts, particularly in strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions.

The meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kasanof provided an opportunity to reaffirm the shared commitment to continuously advancing bilateral relations and cooperation across all areas of mutual interest. Minister Ibrahimović highlighted Montenegro’s deep appreciation for its strong partnership with the United States, emphasizing the country’s unwavering commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic values. Kasanof stated that “Montenegro has a strong ally and partner in the United States,” stressing the importance of continued cooperation on regional stability and security in the Western Balkans, as well as U.S. support for Montenegro’s European path.
