Ibrahimović-Kapetanović: Montenegro a prime example that EU membership is a realistic goal
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today with the Secretary-General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Amer Kapetanović.
Congratulating the Secretary-General on his assumption of office, Minister Ibrahimović assessed that the selection of Montenegro for his first inaugural visit confirms the role of our country as a leader in the European integration process and highlights the importance of joint regional action by the Western Balkan states.
The Minister stated that political entities have demonstrated a high degree of responsibility and consensus through the adoption of key laws and the fulfillment of conditions for the closure of three negotiation chapters, thereby sending a clear signal to Brussels about Montenegro's commitment to its European future.
Montenegro is a positive example of a successful reform path and can serve as an incentive for other countries in the region and beyond that EU membership represents a realistic and achievable goal, Ibrahimović assessed.
RCC Secretary-General Kapetanović congratulated Montenegro on its achievements and stated that the organization will continue to provide full support on its path to the EU.
Montenegro has shown readiness and has the most realistic chance of becoming the first member of the Union in the region, Kapetanović said, expressing confidence that the leadership and experience of our country will contribute to the further strengthening of integration processes in the Western Balkans.
The meeting addressed joint initiatives that contribute to the economic and social transformation of the region. The interlocutors agreed on the importance of continuing cooperation in all areas of common interest, with the active participation of the RCC as a key partner in the implementation of joint initiatives.
