Important milestone achieved for a successful tourism season: Ancona - Bar ferry service to begin in July
The tourism season in Montenegro has received a significant boost, as the country and Italy will once again be connected by ferry during this summer season. An agreement has been reached between the companies "Barska plovidba" and "Adria ferries," following months of negotiations facilitated by the Government of Montenegro and with the support of the Italian Ambassador, Andreina Marsella.
During a meeting organised by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, discussions focused on finalizing details to initiate a strategic partnership crucial for the recovery and development of "Barska plovidba" and the proper utilization of the Port of Bar.
"Adria ferries" is prepared to open the Ancona - Bar route as early as July for the transportation of passengers and goods, which could have a multifaceted positive impact on the summer season.
It is noted that this move could facilitate the arrival of a greater number of tourists while alleviating congestion in road traffic—a double benefit for the coastal region.
Technical matters were discussed during the meeting with representatives of both companies, highlighting the need for certain adjustments at the port to fully utilize the capacities of the AF Mia ferry, which "Adria ferries" intends to use for this route.
The potential use of the Port of Adria as a current solution was emphasised in this regard.
The plan is for the ferry service to operate year-round, and efforts are underway to enable "Barska plovidba" to operate on this route as soon as possible, benefiting the city of Bar and Montenegro in multiple ways.
Further steps have been outlined to efficiently conclude the process and create conditions for Bar to welcome its first guests from Italy via ferry as early as July.
