Key issues discussed at National Security Council session

At today's National Security Council session, several critical topics vital to the safety of Montenegro's citizens were discussed. The main agenda items included the tourism season, the activities of the timber mafia, and the security of politicians and protected individuals.

The Minister of the Interior, along with his team, informed the Council members about operational data and steps taken to enhance the safety of tourists and residents of Montenegro. Special emphasis was placed on addressing recent incidents, including the attack on a forester in Berane, and on increased measures to protect public figures. The Council also addressed the issue of the timber mafia, which poses a serious problem for Montenegro's ecosystem and economy. The need to strengthen legislative and executive mechanisms to combat this type of crime was highlighted.

Additionally, the Council emphasised the importance of the tourist season as a key segment of the national economy and expressed determination to create a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors. In this context, the need for continuous improvement of infrastructure and services, as well as strengthening international cooperation in tourism, was recognised.

The Council, considering the constraints associated with the protection of classified information, expressed satisfaction with the coordinated efforts of the Police Directorate, the Prosecutor's Office, and the National Security Agency. It was noted that these institutions are effectively implementing measures within their jurisdiction to ensure the adequate protection of protected persons.

The National Security Council reaffirms the commitment of all elements of the national security system to maintaining stability and security in Montenegro, as well as unwavering support for institutions on the front lines of defending the rights and freedoms of citizens. As always, the Council will continue to adhere to the principle of transparency and regularly inform the public about all relevant issues, while fully respecting the principles of protecting classified information.
