Krivokapić, Janša: High level of support of Montenegrin citizens to the EU is encouraging
During the first bilateral visit to Slovenia, Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Janez Janša, who invited him to a one-day working visit.
PM Krivokapić informed his Slovenian counterpart about the current opportunities for strengthening the institutions in order to effectively respond to the needs of the accession process. He also informed Prime Minister Janša about the results of the latest public opinion poll, which showed that 75% of the Montenegrin population supports membership in the European Union.
This is a very encouraging fact. We have never had such a degree of solidarity in Montenegro on a political issue. The Government is ready to meet those expectations and we believe that we will complete our obligations in the negotiation process by the end of the mandate, said Prime Minister Krivokapić.
Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša thanked the Prime Minister for his visit and said that he was very encouraged by the citizens' support for Montenegro's European integration. He invited PM Krivokapić to the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held in October. Janša pointed out that he is looking forward to intensifying cooperation in the future. The meeting assessed that cooperation within NATO and other international organisations is an example of good communication between the countries.
The officials agreed that the relations between the two countries are at an excellent level and as such represent a strong foundation for improving cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. In that context, the meeting also discussed the 4th session of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which should be organised as soon as possible, in order to give additional impetus to the dynamization of economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Krivokapić said that the goal of the Government is the economic rebirth of Montenegro. The meeting noted that the visit of the Prime Minister of Montenegro to Slovenia will give an impetus to the strengthening of overall cooperation, primarily economic, and that Slovenia will continue to provide political and expert support to make our country the first next member of the European Union.
