Leveraging a century of UKEF expertise to unlock Montenegro's potential
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with Chief Executive Officer of UK Export Finance Tim Reid. They agreed that a strategic partnership with the United Kingdom could be crucial for Montenegro to effectively build key infrastructure and develop its economy for the benefit of all citizens.
The century-long experience of UKEF (UK Export Finance) in supporting British companies in global business expansion, as well as in providing expert support to countries, is significant for numerous projects that the Government of Montenegro plans to implement in the coming period.
During the discussion, investments in road and rail infrastructure were addressed, emphasising the possibility of UK companies being present from the initial stages – participating in tenders for conceptual designs.
They also acknowledged the opportunity for collaboration in efforts to fully exploit the potential of the Port of Bar and in the development of the energy sector. The involvement of UKEF in the agreement for the €250 million project to construct one of the world's largest solar parks - the Kalyon Karapinar Solar Park in Türkiye - was emphasised.
Arbitration reforms were also discussed, with the possibility of expert and financial assistance from the United Kingdom in this area highlighted.
It was concluded that this could also be the right message to investors that investing in Montenegro is safe.
The meeting was also attended by the British Ambassador to Montenegro Dawn McKen.
