State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ljubomir Mišurović participated today on the Extraordinary online Meeting of NATO Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On today’s meeting, NATO Heads of Diplomacies discussed Russian accumulation of troops on Ukraine’s borders and wider topics concerning European security.

Ministers once again pointed out the serious concern for the accumulation of Russian military in and around Ukraine that has been ongoing for last several months and called upon Russia for further de-escalation and dialogue, as well as for transparency of its military activities. On the other hand, NATO will continue to closely cooperate with relevant actors and other international organizations, including the EU and will take all necessary measures in order to improve security of all NATO allies. Also, it will stay open for dialogue with Russia that is based on the principle of reciprocity with full respect to principles and documents which the European security is based upon when it comes to Russian proposals. Ministers reiterated that further aggression on Ukraine would have significant consequences and, with that in mind, they expressed full support to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

State Secretary Mišurović expressed concern for the events at Ukraine’s border and the need to, through dialogue, reach de-escalation of the current situation. With this in mind, he welcomed efforts of the United States and upcoming bilateral talks with Russia, as well as holding the NATO-Russia Council on 12th of January. He reiterated the full support to territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
