MFA achieved the greatest level of realization of obligations in 2021
According to the Realization of the Work of the Government of Montenegro Report for 2021. Ministry of Foreign Affairs achieved 88,9% of obligations from this Program, which stands as the highest level of realization in relation to other departments.
When it comes to improving the system of economic diplomacy, MFA presented the fifth edition of the “Montenegro Investment and Business Opportunities“, (MIBO) document, which puts into focus business opportunities in Montenegrin trade which have potential for the real growth and whose goal is an even stronger engagement of our diplomats in promoting economy, while economic potentials of Montenegro through activities of the diplomatic – consular network were presented in different formats ( discussions, presentations, events, conferences, fair events, exhibitions, bazaars, delivery of promotional brochures).
When it comes to economic co-operation, initiatives for concluding free trade agreements with Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, UAE were started or continued, as well as the change of the Agreement with Ukraine, while procedures for Partnership, Trade, and Co-operation Agreement with the UK, Economic Co-operation with Kazakhstan, and Mutual Investment Protection Agreement with Hungary are in progress.
First Montenegro - United States Economic Dialogue which presents an opportunity for strengthening the economic partnership with the US was held. Officials of the two countries confirmed the wish to expand the engagement and seek new economic, trade, investment, and commercial opportunities. Also, the new harmonization of terms for holding sessions of joint commissions with Serbia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey and Hungary was started, while economic consultations were held with Switzerland, Kazakhstan and Slovakia.
MFA contributed to the development of economic diplomacy through supporting the participation of Government delegations in the framework of multilateral formats (participation at the Delphi Economic Forum, Balkan Forum within the framework of the Greek chairmanship of SEECP, OECD events), as well as through supporting the intensification of cooperation with international financial institutions, especially the EBRD. Also, activities were realized in cooperation with other departments, within the framework of Montenegro’s chairmanship of CEI.
XIV Summer School for Young Diplomats “Gavro Vuković” was held, it is dedicated to the role and significance of diplomacy in strengthening trust and co-operation in order to develop a safe and sustainable world. It gathered 70 students from 30 countries and five continents, as well as 50 prominent speakers – theorists and practitioners of international relations. In order to strengthen the base of agreements between the MFA’s Diplomatic Academy and related institutions form abroad, since the start of 2021. six memorandums of understanding were agreed upon and four were concluded, with Croatia, Bulgaria, Albania and Hungary.
