MFA announcement

Published on: Feb 27, 2022 4:15 PM Author: MINISTARSTVO VANJSKIH POSLOVA CRNE GORE

Since two more Montenegrin citizens applied to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are nine of them in Ukraine today who have expressed interest in leaving the country. Four of our citizens managed to leave Ukraine today, while three of them are on their way to the border crossings.

Our citizens, athletes Latković and Popović, are on their way to the Hungarian border, in order to speed up their return home.

Due to the great interest of the public, we inform that the Embassy of Montenegro in Poland previously diplomatically asked the Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland and their border police to help and enable two of our athletes to leave Ukraine for Poland. Also, our charge d'affaires Mumin spent the night on the Polish-Ukrainian border, doing everything to make them safe. We would like to inform the public once again that our athletes have been in constant contact with our diplomatic representatives, while in case they go to the Hungarian border, they will be greeted by the Chargé d'Affaires of the Montenegrin Embassy in that country, as well as other Montenegrin citizens who have left Ukraine so far.

From the very beginning, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Đordje Radulović, has been involved in the cases of all our citizens, knowing by name everyone who found himself in trouble. In the specific case of two of our basketball players, he talked several times with their families as well as with KSCG.

Apart from the Montenegrin citizens who are on the road, the MFA and colleagues from the Embassy of Montenegro in Ukraine are also in contact with our citizens who stayed in Kiev, Ivano-Frankivsk and the Dnieper.

Despite the bombs and the state of emergency, our Embassy in Kiev is working from the shelter to provide help to everyone in need and is in constant contact with all our citizens.

Having in mind the fact that no state has organized the evacuation so far, the MFA and its diplomatic-consular network are doing everything to contribute to keep our people safe as much as possible, at this time.

A curfew is in force in Kiev, and everyone is advised to stay in shelters. Our Embassy in Kiev informs that our citizens have food at the moment, and that, if there is a temporary ceasefire, they will immediately inform that it is possible to leave the country. They also state that some of our citizens own motor vehicles, so they could leave the country on their own when circumstances allow.
