MFA: We invite Serbian authorities to stop treating Montenegrin MPs unfairly
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will once again request an explanation from official authorities of the Republic of Serbia regarding yesterday’s treatment of the Member of Parliament Dragica Sekulić by Serbian border police and will then inform the public about it.
It is clear to everyone that apprehensions and harassments of Montenegrin MPs are not a measure of good neighborly relations and are not approved by anyone in the political life neither in Montenegro, nor in Serbia, regardlessr of the political spectrum. Apprehension of MP Sekulić, whose explanation for possession of bromazepam tablets was clearly presented to the authorities, was just one of several inconveniences which Montenegrin MPs faced, amongst whom were: Vuksanović Stanković, Zoronjić, Jelušić, Ibrahimović and Šehović. This can no longer be considered as a coincidence.
Another unfair treatment of Montenegrin MPs at the Serbian border leads to the thought that this action cannot be seen as a separate and coincidental event. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro invites the authorities of the Republic of Serbia and its Minister of Interior Aleksandar Vulin to stop acting in this manner towards Montenegrin MPs.
The fact that mentioned MPs were carriers of diplomatic passports is especially worrying and surprising, especially if our country’s official authorities continually repeat that Montenegro sees Serbia as a friendly country and sincerely wishes good neighborly relations within the European future for citizens of both countries.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives an additional explanation regarding the text published in Pobjeda daily paper and later shared by other media. A text named “Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a scandalous response from official authorities of a neighborly country regarding harassment of Montenegrin MPs at the border”, states that Serbian Ministry of Interior acted according to the procedures.
MFA’s response to the redaction of this paper was sent earlier and it refers to previous events of this kind, but the moment of publication can delude the public that listed statements relate to yesterday’s event.
Emphasizing that diplomatic communication demands certain procedures and time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will certainly inform the public of Serbian Ministry of Interior response to this event.
