Minister Injac pays an official visit to the Republic of Latvia
Minister of Defence Olivera Injac is paying an official visit to the Republic of Latvia, at the invitation of her Latvian counterpart Artis Pabriks. Minister of Defence of the Republic of North Macedonia Radmila Šekerinska and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia Matej Tonin are also paying visit to Latvia.
During her visit to Latvia, Minister Injac visited members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro that are in the Ādaži military base within Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP).
The Minister was informed about the status of the forces within the eFP battlegroup, as well as the implemented tasks in order to preserve security on the eastern borders of the Alliance. In her address at the base, Injac said that Montenegro, recognising the importance of collective defence and the need to contribute to a credible NATO policy of deterrence and defence, made a decision to engage members of the Montenegrin Armed Forces within the eFP in December 2018. She pointed out that the engagement will continue in the upcoming period.
Minister Injac also expressed special gratitude to her Slovenian counterpart Tonin for the initiative for the three ministers to visit Latvia together. She also pointed out the positive experiences of cooperation between the two armed forces within the joint contribution to the eFP.
The joint visit of the three ministers of defence was an opportunity to initially consider the possibility of a joint trilateral contribution to the NATO Multinational Battlegroup and a stronger presence in the East.
The visit to Latvia and the Ādaži military base was an opportunity for Minister Injac and Minister Pabriks to discuss bilateral defence cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Latvia. The ministers expressed their readiness to further improve the defence cooperation between the two countries in the forthcoming period.
