Minister Krivokapić participates in Informal Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ranko Krivokapić participated in the first Informal Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Berlin.
The newly launched so-called Berlin format is an opportunity to hold open discussions without the public on the most sensitive security issues facing the Euro-Atlantic area in the wake of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
Sweden and Finland have also been invited to attend the talks in Berlin. The two countries are on the verge of deciding whether to accede to NATO.
The foreign ministers discussed the current security situation in Europe, especially in the context of Russia's aggression invasion against Ukraine, and the consequences of the war for the wider Euro-Atlantic area. NATO ministers, along with Finnish and Swedish ministers, are united in condemning Russia's aggression invasion and have called for a ceasefire.
Foreign Minister Krivokapić reiterated that Montenegro condemns Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He confirmed Montenegro's commitment to NATO's open door policy, while stressing that all sovereign nations have the right to choose their own path.
Minister Krivokapić had a special meeting with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio. The meeting assessed that Montenegro and Italy have friendly relations, which are based on continuous high-level political dialogue.
Minister Di Maio said that the ties between Italy and Montenegro are very strong and added that the two countries must work more together. We agreed that we need to revitalise the Strategic Cooperation Agreement from 2010 and immediately constitute a joint economic commission. We need to look at current challenges together. Peace in Ukraine is a priority. We will work together as much as possible to guarantee peace and stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, Italy fully supports Montenegro's accession to the European Union. Montenegro can always count on Italy. Mr. Minister, count on us and our Government, said Di Maio.
Di Maio invited Krivokapić to pay an official visit to Rome.
